Sophistication is Overrated

Sophistication is Overrated | The Rose TableWhile I don’t agree with the title (sophistication is vastly underrated in my opinion), readying this book is a fine way to spend your Sunday coffee, particularly if you’re a party planning novice.

This book, written by sisters Babs Horner and Susan Palma, offers insight into themed parties. Many of the recipes are easily made ahead of time and the tips included in the book aim to keep entertaining relaxed.

The Sisters throw all sorts of parties and break each one down for you. Some of the decor isn’t my personal taste but ideas such as changing light bulbs to set the tone and setting up a table in front of your fireplace make the book worth the read.

One of my favorite parts of the book was the intro to each themed party. The Sisters include celebrity quotes for each section that are sure to make you chuckle and pour a second cup of coffee while you flip through the oversized coffee table book.

The party recipes included are solid foundations for any hostess to have in her repertoire. I’m hungry just looking at this photo!

One of my favorite party ideas is a Mardi Gras bash. I’ve been wanting to go to New Orleans for two years now. A French Quarter-themed party might just be the next best thing! If anything, this book will give you a renewed vigor for entertaining or inspire you to throw your first soirée.
