Game of Thorns 2018

Scentimental Rose | The Rose Table

Welcome to Game of Thorns 2018! I had to skip 2017 since it was my first spring in my new house and I was just starting my garden, but we are BACK, ladies and gentlemen. Game of Thorns is a little game I started a few years ago to track how early each of my roses bloomed. The winner is the first rose of the year. I have my roses on a brand new feed program (read about it here) so I’m hoping this will be a game changing year for my garden!

Winner of Game of Thorns 2018: Scentimental

I’m not surprised that Scentimental won Game of Thorns since it was one of the most prolific roses in my garden last year. It’s continued to flourish and shot out copious amounts of multicolored blooms. It grows right next to my courtyard so I get to smell its sweet rose scent every time the wind blows.

Bordeaux

I don’t have a lot of old fashioned english roses. I tend to plant more modern hybrid teas. Bordeaux has much smaller blooms than others in my garden but they’re packed with antique rose scent.

Elegant Lady

This is quite possibly the most beautiful rose of all time. I mean, does a rose get more perfect? The way the petals fall is so dreamy. I could stare at the pale pink blooms for hours.

Seven Sisters

This rose is so special to me. Seven Sisters is an antique rose from the 1800s. My friend Mama Caruso gave it to me as a housewarming present. She cut her own Seven Sisters plant and propagated mine from the cuttings. Her plant is from her brother’s nursery in New Orleans, cut and propagated from a 300 year-old rose bush. Talk about the most thoughtful housewarming gift ever! Mine is small now but someday it will cascade down my fence and fill me with joy when I sit at my fire pit.

Bella Roma

I wanted this bleeding rose for so long. It’s big and showy but so far the canes haven’t taken off like the rest of the row. I’ll keep you posted!

Tahitian Sunset

Tahitian Sunset has the tendency to intertwine with Dream Come True, which can be similar in color but for me they’re easy to tell apart. Tahitian Sunset is bright and happy addition to any garden!

Lion’s Fairytale

Last but certainly not least in the first wave was Lion’s Fairytale, my favorite rose in my first garden. This was always an easy keeper for me and I’m hoping for the same in my new garden!

Disneyland

The official rose of Disneyland proudly greets every guest that comes to my home. It’s one of two roses in my front bed and is still teeny tiny but the happiest color! One might even say it’s the happiest color on earth.

More roses are still to come. Stay tuned!

Happy growing,
