Looking for the perfect Wicked Cupcakes to celebrate both Elphaba and Galinda with a Ga? Defy Gravity with these perfect pink and green chocolate cupcakes!


I served these gorgeous, delicious cupcakes at my Wicked Ball and they were a hit! The cupcakes are crazy moist and the frosting turns out perfect every time.


Never made swirled frosting before? It’s so easy! You just need Saran wrap and a piping bag. Color your frosting then spread the colors in rows on Saran wrap. Then put the whole tube inside of a pastry bag and pipe it on. Voila! Just like magic.


Wicked Cupcakes
24 cupcakes
2 cups sugar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup dark cocoa powder (I use Hershey’s Special Dark)
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 cup 1% milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup boiling water
Pink and Green Swirled Frosting, recipe follows
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two muffin cup pans with cupcake liners and spray each with non-stick spray.
- Combine sugar, flour, dark cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large mixing bowl. Add eggs one at a time and mix until incorporated. Add milk, oil and vanilla all at once and beat on medium speed of mixer about two minutes. Stir in the boiling water. Fill cupcake liners about 2/3 full.
- Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.
- Frost cupcakes according to instructions below.
Pink and Green Swirled Frosting
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
5 cups powdered sugar, sifted
2 tsp vanilla
2-3 Tbsp milk
Pink food coloring
Green food coloring
- Beat butter with electric mixer until nice and fluffy. Beat in two cups of powdered sugar until incorporated, then add vanilla extract.
- Beat in two more cups of powdered sugar until combined. Add a tablespoon of milk and final cup of powdered sugar. Beat in another tablespoon of milk. Add more powdered sugar or milk as needed to reach your desired consistency.
- Divide frosting in half. Tint half green and half pink.
- Set a piece of cling wrap on the counter and spread the frosting side by side on the cling wrap in rows as shown in the photos above. Roll up like a tube and put the whole tube inside a large pastry bag fitted with a star tip. Frost as you normally would cupcakes and voila – a beautiful swirled pink and green frosting!
