Shark Cupcakes

Shark cupcakes

Looking for delicious, eye-catching Shark Cupcakes? You’ve come to the right place! I served these adorable cupcakes at my Jaws-inspired shark pool party and they were an absolute hit.

I used my swirled frosting method for the Ocean Wave Frosting. You can choose any three shades of blue that you like. I used royal blue, teal, and delphinium blue Wilton icing and the effect was exactly what I wanted.

Could these Shark Cupcakes be any cuter!? They truly brought me immeasurable joy. I don’t use a lot of cupcake toppers but these shark fin cupcake toppers from Amazon were irresistible.

Shark Cupcakes

24 cupcakes
2 cups sugar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup dark cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 cup 1% milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup boiling water
Ocean Wave Frosting, recipe follows

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two muffin cup pans with cupcake liners and spray each with non-stick spray.
  2. Combine sugar, flour, dark cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large mixing bowl. Add eggs one at a time and mix until incorporated. Add milk, oil and vanilla all at once and beat on medium speed of mixer about two minutes. Stir in the boiling water. Fill cupcake liners about 2/3 full.
  3. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.
  4. Frost cupcakes according to instructions below. Garnish with shark fin cupcake toppers.

Shark fin cupcake toppers

  1. Beat butter with electric mixer until nice and fluffy. Beat in two cups of powdered sugar until incorporated, then add vanilla extract.
  2. Beat in two more cups of powdered sugar until combined. Add a tablespoon of milk and final cup of powdered sugar. Beat in another tablespoon of milk. Add more powdered sugar or milk as needed to reach your desired consistency.
  3. Divide frosting into thirds. Tint each third your desired shade of blue.
  4. Set a piece of cling wrap on the counter and spread the frosting side by side on the cling wrap in rows as shown in the photos. Roll up like a tube and put the whole tube inside a large pastry bag fitted with a star tip. Frost as you normally would cupcakes and voila – ocean wave frosting!
