The sunset over St. Kitts from The Gin Trap‘s Nevis patio has to be one of the best I’ve ever seen. It’s a positively epic happy hour. The turquoise couches, chic rustic tables, and twinkling lanterns set the stage for a magical evening. If you’re lucky like I was, you may happen to be at The Gin Trap when the famous green flash hits the sea.
The bar inside is warm and comfortable with leather furniture, large wooden trunks serving as coffee tables, and teal mirrors that could easily be at my own house.Popcorn is readily available at the bar, served in fun, oversized glasses. Plantation shutters frame the Caribbean sunset. Chocolate, the bar tender, shakes up a mean coconut martini from behind the bar. It’s so creamy, like a lighter version of a pina colada. I hope it doesn’t disappoint you that I did not in fact partake in any gin at The Gin Trap. I’m just not a gin kind of girl! If you’re into gin, The Gin Trap has an extensive gin menu and even a fun gin wheel.

After the sun has set, you’ll make your way to the open air dining room. It actually reminds me a lot of Disneyland, so whimsical and fun. Every inch of The Gin Trap has been carefully crafted (right down to the party lights in the bathroom). The Caribbean breeze gently reminds you that you’re on vacation and should in fact order dessert! Here a few of my favorite dishes at The Gin Trap.

Conch Chowder
The Gin Trap is not stingy with conch in its chowder. Huge chunks are surrounded by a spicy, flavorful broth. I tried to get them to tell me what spices were in the broth but alas, it’s a secret. It tasted very much like Indian cuisine to me. I loved dipping my fluffy Gin Trap roll in the chowder. Yum!
The goat cheese tart is flaky and creamy and well-portioned for one.
Mani Mahi
Mahi mahi is one of my favorite fish dishes. The Gin Trap serves the fresh catch with creamy polenta and a spicy sauce. It’s a meaty, hearty dish.
I didn’t realize that hearing a server say, “Miss, you need a third dessert” was on my bucket list until I dined at The Gin Trap. The desserts are AWESOME and the best part is that you get to pick three! We got molten chocolate cake, fresh chocolate chip cookies, and amazing key lime cheesecake. That’s easily one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had. I’m sure my eyes bugged out of my head like some sort of cartoon character. It’s impossibly light and not too heavy at all. I’m dying to know what spice is in the cookies, which are served warm from the oven.

All in all, The Gin Trap is a fabulous place to spend an evening while on the island of Nevis. The staff is lovely, the atmosphere is dreamy, and the happy hour would be hard to beat!
