If there is one restaurant all of my friends want to visit, it’s Standard Service. Located in my darling small town of Rockwall, Texas about twenty minutes east of Dallas, Standard Service has fantastic farm-to-table cuisine, cocktails that support local charities, and a breezy patio with a fire pit, strung lights, and corn hole. The first time I ever visited Standard Service, I asked my server Patrick (who is now a manager) about a dish and he could literally speak to every farm- or bakery- fresh ingredient. I fell in love immediately! Here are nine of my favorite dishes to try.
Tuna & Avocado Sushi Bowl
I was terrified to try this and wouldn’t have thought to order a dish that included wasabi peas. (I loathe wasabi.) Thank goodness my dad ordered it and I stole a bite! Chunks of ahi tuna are tossed with creamy avocado, crunchy wasabi peas, cool cucumber, and seaweed salad. It’s light and refreshing, which is great if you plan on ordering any of Standard’s substantial and delicious appetizers!
The Remedy Burger
On other the side of the coin, this is my go-to burger in town when I need a beef fix. Avocado mayo, bacon, fried onions, and a sunny side local egg put this burger over the edge. And did I mention the bun? My preferred side is sweet potato waffle fries. Yum!
Grilled Chicken Sandwich
A grilled chicken sandwich doesn’t sound terribly exciting but I’m here to tell you: it is. Grilled chicken, white cheddar, arugula, and unexpected spicy cherry peppers are wedged between two slices of toasted local sourdough smothered with pesto mayo. The first time I ordered it, my server suggested a half size. I was flattered that he thought I was a half-sandwich kind of girl. I should have believed him: this sandwich is enormous. Half is plenty. The salad and the fries are both great sides.
Parmesan Kale Dip
Roasted tomatoes are baked with cream cheese, kale, and parmesan for an elevated version of everyone’s favorite dip. It’s one of my favorite starters on the menu!
Chips & Queso
I’m not one of those Texans who gets terribly jazzed up over chips and queso but wow, is this a beautiful dish! It’s as tasty as it is Instagrammable. White queso is topped with avocado, lime creme, pico, pickled red onions, and cilantro.
Tex Mex Nachos
I’ve been on a total Tex Mex Nacho kick. I’m not going to sugar coat it: it’s a large platter and my friends and I pretty much don’t let a chip leave the table. Tortilla chips are topped with grilled chicken, ranchero beans, pepper jack cheese, spicy red salsa, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños (which I get on the side), lime creme, and avocado. I always order a side of Standard’s ranch to drizzle on top.
Cheese Fries
Oh my fry, these are good. I almost wish I hadn’t ever tried them because now I want them every time I go and a girl can only order so many splurges at one dinner! French fries are topped with melted pepper jack cheese, queso, crumbled bacon, sour cream, and green onion. They’re also amazing drizzled with ranch.
Breakfast Tacos – Weekend Brunch
You’ll find the exceptional breakfast tacos on Standard’s brunch menu. Two soft flour tortillas are lined with cheesy scrambled eggs (that’s right, lined) and filled with bacon, herb roasted potatoes, lime creme, and green goddess with a side of pico. Lime and potato is one of my favorite flavor combinations and it’s executed perfectly here. I dream about these tacos.

The Lucy
Standard Service only offers two desserts: The Lucy and the Ricky. Even though the Ricky is chocolate, The Lucy is actually my favorite! Strawberry ice cream, fresh strawberries, caramel sauce, toasted coconut and whipped cream are piled high on top of a coconut blondie.
Bonus: The Spitfire
Who knew I’d love a gin cocktail so much? The Spitfire is a refreshing drink of Highborn Gin, blackberry, lemon, mint, and sparkling wine. It’s fantastic with Tex Mex Nachos! Proceeds benefit Folds of Honor.
Standard Service is located at 760 W Ralph Hall Pkwy, Rockwall, Texas 75032 and is open 11 am – 10 am Sunday – Thursday and 11 am – 11 pm on Friday and Saturday. Weekends have a separate brunch menu.
