Spring Tasting at Kuhlman Cellars

Best Vineyard Fredericksburg Texas

Springtime at Kuhlman Cellars is a sight for sore eyes. I drove to the Texas Hill Country today for Kuhlman Cellars’ Blessing of the Vines spring celebration event (more on that later) and was shocked to see how awake the vines and wildflowers already are. After enjoying the grounds and snapping some picks, I finally got to try the winter 2023 Wine and Food Experience menu. Kuhlman Cellars is known for their exquisite wine and food tasting and dare I say, this might be my favorite menu yet!

If you’ve done the tasting before, it’s time to do it again. Why? Because Kuhlman changes the menu seasonally. Tastings take place in the barrel room, which is always nice and cool no matter how hot the Texas sun feels.

The pairing begins with the 2021 Estate Roussanne (my favorite Kuhlman wine!) paired with a delicious Japanese Egg Custard with tamari, preserved mushrooms, and galangal crunch followed by the 2021 Estate Rosé (the 2021 is my favorite vintage so far of this wine) paired with housemade roasted beet hummus with sea salt crackers. The hummus was great on its own but really sparkled with the rosé.

The tasting always includes Kuhlman’s most beloved pairing: the 2019 Alluvé with their famous herbed almonds. If you’ve never had them before, trust me, you’re going to buy a bag to take home.

Next up was my favorite pairing: the 2019 Estate Red with delicata squash tapenade with honey ricotta on focaccia. I would never, ever think to pair red wine such a dish but wow. This pairing absolutely blew my mind. It transformed the dish! This is what wine and food pairings are all about.

Last but certainly not least was the 2017 Ignis , a smooth red wine, paired with roast beef on polenta cracker with spinach butter and rosemary oil, an exceptional sip with a perfect beefy bite.

This might just be my favorite wine and food tasting menu at Kuhlman Cellars to date! Just look at the joy on my face during this tasting.

Later this week I’ll tell you all about the progressive Estate wine tasting out in the vines. Be on the lookout for that! I also filmed an episode of The Rose Table at the vineyard that I can’t wait to share with you. Be sure to subscribe on YouTube!
