Don Juan Climbing Rose

Don Juan Climbing Rose

Don Juan is a wonderful addition to any garden. Hardy in zones 5 to 10, this stunning red climbing rose continues to bloom all season long, showering you with beautiful red blooms.

I ordered mine many years ago from Jackson & Perkins. Sadly, my former yard team mowed right over it a few years in but Don Juan grew back and has been thriving ever since!

Traits

Don Juan is an excellent choice for the southern gardener, as it thrives when other roses struggle in hot, humid environments. Its fragrant red roses bloom from spring to fall. This hardy rose is disease resistant, though mine does get a touch of black spot during the rainy season.

I’ve read that Don Juan makes an excellent cut flower but I’ve actually NEVER cut this rose!

Blooms

The show-stopping blooms are the purest red. If I could wear Don Juan as a lipstick, I would! The blooms have 30-40 petals and are stunning against my white trellis. Each bloom also lasts quite long on the plant. Don Juan truly makes a stunning photo backdrop!

Size

Don Juan can grow up to ten feet tall so be sure to give him a trellis, a fence, or something else to hang on to.

Care

Plant Don Juan in well-drained soil where it will get 6+ hours of sunlight, though this rose can tolerate part shade. I feed my roses once in the spring, once in the fall, and I water with a seaweed treatment once a month. Read my article on How to Grow Roses for more care tips.

Happy growing,
