Elderflower Sangria

Elderflower Sangria

Looking for an easy, laid back cocktail? Make a pitcher of Elderflower Sangria! This delightful drink is perfect to sip in the garden or even in the pool this summer.

Many sangria recipes call for sugar or simple syrup but elderflower liquor (St. Germain) is quite sweet on its own. If you want, add 1-2 ounces of simple syrup to taste.

Garnish glasses with fresh mint, rosemary, or lavender sprigs and edible flowers such as pansies or dianthus if have any in the garden.

I came up with this delightful recipe for my Enchanted Forest Dinner Party and now it’s one of my all-time favorite make-ahead cocktails!

Elderflower Sangria

1 bottle sauvignon blanc or pinot grigio
1 lemon, sliced
1/2 orange, sliced
1/2 cup elderflower liquor
Optional: 1-2 oz simple syrup*
1-2 cups club soda
Serving suggestion: strawberries, mint, additional orange slices, edible flowers

  1. Add lemon and orange slices to a large pitcher. Add wine and elderflower liquor. Stir and refrigerate for 8 hours.
  2. Add club soda to sangria just before serving.
  3. Fill glasses with ice and an orange slice. Pour sangria over ice and garnish with a sprig of mint or lavender, a strawberry, and an edible flower.

*To make simple syrup: Combine equal parts sugar and water (i.e. 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water) to a boil in a small sauce pan until sugar is completely dissolved. Cool and store in the fridge for up to a month.

One response to “Elderflower Sangria”

  1. I adore elderflower liquor. This looks great. I often take a bottle of elderflower liquor, and cut it about half with some strong vodka. It’s my elvish “whiskey”, and very nice for a shot.
