  1. I was born on with a birth defect on my left hand. There was no way my family or myself could have any idea of what my future would be like. When I was in the first grade, I had a lot of reading trouble that makes it very difficult to learn almost all subjects. Concerned with my slow speech development, my parents took me to a lot of special doctors to find out why I was not developing verbally. The doctors gave me a lot of tests for reading, math and spelling- a lot of hands on testing. I did well on some subject, and struggled with others.

After I graduated from Marshall High School, I went to St. Phillips college taking math and reading. This was even harder for me and was different from high school because I didn’t have the one-on-one help and attention I needed to help with my disabilities and dyslexia. I finally had to leave college.
I’m proud to know that from the first time my mom took me bowling in Arkansas when I was very young, I struggled with bowling but I didn’t give up. My mom and dad helped me learn how to catch and throw a softball. I’m very proud that after working hard, I’ve been able to overcome my birth defect and Intellectual disabilities and be a Champion and feel proud of myself.
