It’s a dark and stormy morning and I’m just dying to tell you about dinner last night. My mom and I tried a new spot in Dallas before watching Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer orchestra perform and we were so charmed and blown away that I decided to write about it for you.
We loved Beverley’s Bistro and Bar before we even walked in. Its location just north of the arts district off I-75 meant we could be at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in less than ten minutes. We got a text prior to dinner informing us that they offer complimentary valet, which is pretty much my favorite thing a restaurant in Dallas can offer. (I hate looking for parking.)
We got there early and were the first ones seated at 5 pm. We didn’t want to rush around to make the concert in time. Beverley’s is beautifully decorated with blue windows, red booths, marble tables, and palm fronds. It’s sophisticated and cool without trying to be. It’s New York cool, if you will.
We were seated in a corner booth with a fabulous view of the restaurant. (I lament that I didn’t get better shots of the restaurant but in my defense, I wasn’t expecting to write an article.) I ordered a La Femme Nikita, Beverley’s spin on a strawberry French 75.
There were nearly too many appealing appetizers to choose! I’m dying to go back and try the latkes with caviar, ceviche tostadas, and charred spanish octopus with crispy potatoes (which the couple next to us got and looked incredible) but for tonight’s dinner, we ordered the tuna crudo from the raw menu and the peaches and burrata. We figured the peaches wouldn’t be on the menu too much longer since it’s at the end of the summer season. Warm peaches, pumpkin seeds, and julienned basil sat atop a gooey bed of burrata. It was simple and flavorful, which is my kind of food.
The yellowfin crudo looked like a work of art. Each piece of tuna was carefully crafted into an insanely flavorful bite. With mint, pistachios, and avocado cream, this is a light and refreshing way to start the meal.
I thought I was going to order the whole branzino for dinner but I totally surprised myself and ordered the steak frites. I’m so glad that I did! The 8 oz steak was perfectly charred, topped with flaked sea salt, and served with seasoned french fries, greens, and a Béarnaise sauce that’ll knock your socks off. I’m not even a big beef person (my parents are from San Francisco and Seattle so I grew up in a seafood house) but this was the perfect amount of beef for me. I don’t think a single bite was left behind!
For dessert, we split the sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce and chilled marscapone. Wow. What a treat! It has a deep caramel flavor that sticks with you. (See what I did there?) It was a nice size for two so don’t be afraid to order dessert!
During dinner we learned that the owner’s background involves the Porch (where I dine regularly) and Hibiscus, one of my family’s all-time favorite restaurants that sadly closed its doors several years ago. Of course Beverley’s has ties to Hibiscus. Every seasoning and sauce is well thought out and no detail is left behind. For instance, the hallway to the bathroom is elegant lit with votive candles and the two-stall bathroom is beautiful. We really could not have had a better dining experience at Beverley’s, from the beautiful decor to tasty food, unbelievably warm staff down to the luxury lotion in the bathroom. Run, don’t walk, to try Beverley’s Bistro in Dallas!
