I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream.
I had the Saturday of my dreams. I uncorked one of my finest bottles, my NV Folktale Rosé Brut from Folktale Winery, for happy hour with my beloved horse Prince and gorgeous friend Cathryn. You might remember me raving about this particular bottle during my trip to Carmel, California.

In my Folktale Winery article, I described the rosé as tasting like candy and I stand by that. This is without a doubt the best sparkling rosé I’ve ever had. It’s sweet like summer cherries with a bright finish that makes you want another sip immediately. Try it for yourself by buying it here.

This was an impromptu picnic so I grabbed leftover spinach dip, some parmesan crisps, and herbed almonds from Kuhlman Cellars and off we went to Black Star Sport Horses for the happiest of happy hours. Picnics don’t always have to be a big production. I just wanted to enjoy this glorious 55-degree weather. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky! Does it get nicer than that?
I’ve marked this under the Wine with Wendy tab but avid readers will immediately be able to tell that this is not my Friesian mare Wendy in the photos but my beloved Saddlebred of eighteen years, Prince. Prince has historically speaking never been my primary picnic horse (he used to quite literally run circles around Wendy and I during many a picnic) but at twenty-two years old, he’s finally mellowed out enough to enjoy an early evening picnic. He hung right next to our picnic blanket for over an hour before we walked him around in the sunshine for a bit.
What’s your favorite way to unwind? Mine without a doubt is wonderful company and fine wine with my horses. I never feel more myself than when I’m with my horses and, well, to love wine is to love life. Cheers to that!
Disclaimer: It’s admittedly dangerous to be on the ground next to a horse that could easily accidentally hurt you. I’ve had Prince for nearly two decades and am confident in his picnic abilities. Don’t try this with an unknown horse!
Love it? Pin it!
Happy horsing around,
