I don’t know about you but I am craving travel content lately. All I want to read about it is lovely places full of lovely food where a lovely time is had. I may not be traveling but I do frequent my parents’ lake house in east Texas. If you follow me on social media, you often see pictures from the lake house but I rarely post about it here on my blog. Today I thought I’d change that and share some of my favorite scenes from the summer in case you too want to armchair travel.
This was Henry’s first lake season (I just got him last December) and he absolutely loved boating! He especially loved sunset cruises.
I read a lot of books in the hammock, the standout being Kevin Kwan’s Sex & Vanity. I don’t know anyone who spends more time in hammocks than me. I love the hammock the lake because it faces the water and it’s shaded by pine trees.
My mom’s hydrangeas were glorious this year. She miraculously has pink, white, and blue hydrangeas right next to each other. They make the most beautiful cut bouquets too!
They make gorgeous bouquets too!
One of the cutest things that happened this season was when our neighbors, Keith and Linda, brought over a huge basket of corn that they picked the day before. It was unbelievably delicious. We ate/froze every last kernel! No corn was wasted.
I enjoyed many picnics in the yard before it got too hot. The hill is quite shady in the afternoon and you know me, I’m always eager to lounge around on a picnic blanket!
My mom and I have been enjoying happy hours on the deck lately. We assemble whatever meats, cheeses, crackers, nuts, fruits, and jams we happen to have on hand for a little five o’clock treat and watch the boats go by.
I’m definitely a lake girl and I spent a ton of time on the water, mostly exploring every nook and cranny of the lake on a jet ski, or out on the kayak on a calm day.
My mom is an excellent boater. She grew up sailing in San Francisco Bay so she’s totally at home on the boat.

Recently in an attempt to travel without traveling, we recreated one of my favorite Blue Bayou meals from Disneyland. I often say that the screened porch at the lake house reminds of me of the Blue Bayou at night because of the water views and all the lanterns. You can read about this dinner here.

Speaking of food, we had so many delicious meals at the lake! We grill a lot when we’re there. The charcoal grill is on the deck facing the water so there’s a wonderful view. A lot of the recipes for our meals and treats are here on The Rose Table! I’ll link them below.
My deconstructed chicken from Disney Dinners: Alice in Wonderland.
Turkey and peach panini. (My mom is famous for her paninis!)
Bacon-Wrapped Chicken Tenders.
We’re never too busy to watch the sunset at the lake.
If it’s not too hot, we love starting a fire for roasting s’mores, hot dogs, or just relaxing with a cup of coffee.
I don’t know how I talked my parents into this, but I got a pirate flag for the boat, dock, and garden and they hung all three. So if you see this jaunty fella cruising around a lake in Texas, that might just be us!

I hope you felt like you had a little vacation reading this article.
Yo ho yo ho a pirate’s life for,
