Scentimental Rose

Scentimental Rose

Ahh, Scentimental. One of my favorite roses! This rose is rather jaw-dropping. Every petal looks like it’s been hand painted. In fact, it’s a bit reminiscent of the Painting the Roses Red scene in Alice in Wonderland, as if the Queen of Hearts herself bred this rose.

I got this rose years ago from Jackson and Perkins and it’s definitely one of my favorites. Each rose is a mix of burgundy and white but the true beauty of this rose can’t be seen. Some blooms are more red, some have more of a pink tint, some are quite white. It’s so fun to have a variety!

The Scent

It’s named Scentimental for a reason. The smell is intoxicating! It’s that perfect old world rose smell that antique rose growers crave. The scent is so strong that you don’t even need to lean over and take a whiff to enjoy it. I can smell the heavenly aroma anywhere on my courtyard when there’s a breeze!

The Blooms

The blooms themselves are quite large, about 4″. Scentimental continuously blooms all season long. The rose itself is rather compact and bushy, only reaching about 3-4′ tall. It’s heat tolerant (yay!) making it a great choice for Southern gardeners like myself.

Disease Resistance

I will say, this rose is marketed as disease resistant but I’ve probably had more problems battling black spot with Scentimental than any of my other roses. However, a weekly misting of neem oil is worth it to smell its sweet scent!
