Looking for an easy homemade dog treat recipe? You’ve come to the right place! My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Henry LOST HIS MIND over these delicious, easy-to-make dog treats. He literally licks the rug where the treat was sitting after he’s done eating one – and they’re only four ingredients!
“You can be a champion too if you eat Kanine Krunchies”
I baked these as a take-home gift for my guests at Disney Dinners: 101 Dalmatians so of course, I had to name them Kanine Krunchies, which is the commercial (with the catchy little jingle) that the Dalmatian puppies watch in the movie.
I realize how very Ina Garten this sounds, but I used homemade pumpkin purée for this recipe. I made quite a lot of fairytale pumpkin purée this winter and still have a ton in the freezer. My fairytale pumpkin purée is quite a dark orange, nearly red because the flesh of a fairytale pumpkin is such a gorgeous, dark shade. If you’re using store bought pumpkin purée (totally fine!), your treats will likely be more brown than orange.
The baking time will depend on how big your treats are. Just keep an eye on them. If you use a little cookie cutter, they’ll be done sooner. The crunchiness level is really up to you!

Kanine Krunchies
2/3 cup pumpkin purée
1/4 cup Jif creamy peanut butter
2 large eggs
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Beat pumpkin purée and peanut butter until combined. Mix in eggs. Gradually add in whole wheat flour. (Note: you may add up to a quarter cup more of flour if dough is too sticky. If dough is too stiff, add a tablespoon of water.)
- Knead dough a couple of times to form a stiff ball. Use a rolling pin to roll out to about 1/4″ thickness. Cut out into dog bone shapes. Place on cookie sheets and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and crunchy. Let cool completely before giving to your dog.
