Velvet Taco Rockwall

Velvet Taco Rotisserie Chicken

Velvet Taco opening in Rockwall is quite literally the best thing that’s happened to me in months. Y’all don’t even understand the satisfaction I felt when biting into my beloved picnic chicken taco, reunited after six long years. As some of my longtime readers know, I lived in Fort Worth for nine magical years and during that time my favorite spot was Velvet Taco. I nearly crashed my car when I first saw the VT sign go up in my town!

Just a dainty little lunch!

I got to preview the menu today and was delighted to see all of my favorites on the menu. I cannot stress enough: these are the best tacos in DFW. Hands down. No contest. I could hardly contain my excitement driving to lunch today. I was pleased as punch to finally introduce my mom to my favorite tacos!

The staff greeted us so warmly. They all seemed so excited to be there! One of the managers explained that it’s an entirely from-scratch restaurant. They even make their delicious avocado crema in house.

Velvet Taco Queso Blanco

Queso Blanco

Velvet Taco’s Queso Blanco has salsa verde, Velvet Taco heat sauce, charred tomato salsa, cilantro, and blue corn chips. They’re not kidding when they say “heat sauce” – it is SPICY! You can dip around it or mix it together for a super spicy queso.

Is that a thing of beauty or what?

Picnic Chicken Taco

This was always my order of choice at the OG Velvet Taco on West 7th! This amazing taco has rotisserie chicken, avocado crema, honey-dijon potato salad, crispy chicken skin, and cilantro in a flour tortilla. It’s the crispy chicken skin that does it for me.

Cuban Pig

The Cuban Pig, photographed above with the Picnic Chicken has gruyere cheese, slow-roasted pulled pork, queso blanco, honey ham, peppered bacon, grain mustard, and house brined pickles in a crisp flour tortilla. I am passionate about gruyere and you certainly don’t see it enough in tacos! Can we make this a movement?!

Rotisserie Chicken

The Rotisserie Chicken taco has crazy moist chicken smothered with queso blanco and topped with roasted corn pico, charred tomato poblano salsa, and cilantro on a corn tortilla. It’s gluten free and packed full of flavor!

Crisp Tots

My favorite menu item might just be the tater tots. At a taco place?! I’m telling you, they’re a must. These are not your average tater tots. They have herb goat cheese, smoked cheddar, avocado crema, chile butter, peppered bacon, micro greens, and a farm fresh egg on top. Oh my word. I can’t tell you how many times I have sat around dreaming about these tots wishing Velvet Taco would come to Rockwall. Dreams do come true, as it turns out.

Red Velvet Cake

Save room for dessert! I always thought it was so clever that Velvet Taco sells one dessert and one dessert only: Red Velvet Cake. You know I love a theme! The red velvet cake is moist, thick, and smothered with cajeta on top.

The margarita, by the way, is delicious! And that’s saying a lot coming from me because I’m not even a big margarita person.

While Velvet Taco was once upon a time unique to my beloved Fort Worth, it’s now expanded across Texas and beyond and I for one am grateful. Velvet Taco Rockwall opens on Monday, February 20th. See if there’s a Velvet Taco near you here.

Happy eating,
