It’s about time I tell you more about my gorgeous Bordeaux Rose! This compact rose is planted in full sun by my front door, welcoming all who dine at The Rose Table. I’m so glad I chose a red rose for this spot because this rose blooms through Christmas every year, showering me with red blooms sometimes until the beginning of January.
This is an adorable little rose, only growing about 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide. This rose took a while to fill out and get going but now that it’s established, it’s a true work horse. This rose is drought tolerant and heat resistant, making it an excellent choice for southern gardeners like myself. Mine bakes in full afternoon sun here in Texas and I don’t think I’ve ever seen black spot or any issues with this hardy rose!
Bordeaux is a deep red floribunda with a light, citrusy scent. The blooms are particularly pretty, with more of a fluttery, antique shape. The color never fades, staying that deep crimson color from bud until the last petal falls.
Floribundas in general are quite low maintenance compared to my beloved hybrid teas and this is without a doubt one of the easiest keepers in my garden. Bordeaux is a repeat bloomer, meaning it sends up rose after rose after rose April – December here in zone 8. If you’re looking for a small, low maintenance red rose, I highly recommend adding Bordeaux to your garden!
