Looking for summer picnic inspiration? I packed up a Greek-inspired picnic to celebrate Scenes from The Odyssey at Shakespeare Dallas. Shakespeare in the Park is one of my favorite summer traditions and this show was right up my alley. Here’s everything I took for my Odyssey picnic!

The Decor
My blue and white picnic blanket was the perfect backdrop for my Greek picnic. I took my copy of Homer’s The Odyssey, a beloved vase I brought back from Athens, and a cheeky gold octopus. After all, this is a seafaring journey featuring Poseidon!

I also packed my sea creature melamine plates and octopus napkin rings. When in Rome, er Ithaka, right? I even took my octopus mugs from my Pirates of the Caribbean party. I have way more octopus decor than I realized!

We poured some Miraval rosé (perfect on a hot day!) and settled in for a lovely dinner before the show.

Odyssey Picnic Menu
Greek Quinoa Salad

Fresh Cherries, Grapes
Gold Flake Chocolate Chip Cookies
Greek Quinoa Salad

I’m obsessed with this healthy quinoa salad. Now of course, quinoa isn’t Greek but every other ingredient in this salad is and it’s perfect for a picnic! It’s delicious on its own or served with grilled chicken. Get the recipe here.
Whipped Feta

This creamy, dreamy dip is so addictive! It’s super lemony and absolutely perfect on a hot summer day. It’s delightful with fresh veggies, pita bread, or pita chips. Get the recipe here.
Gold Flake Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cookies fit for the gods! I added a touch of edible gold to my perfect chocolate chip cookies from The Rose Table Cookbook as an homage to all the mischievous Greek Gods that help (or hurt) Odysseus on his journey. Get the recipe here.
The Show
This is not your average production of The Odyssey. Scenes from The Odyssey by Shakespeare Dallas exhibits some incredible artistry between the projects to puppets and everything in between. The crowd went wild over the two-story cyclops puppet!

There’s singing and dancing, a trip to the underworld, and some fantastic performances. It’s quite a fast-paced, exciting show with gripping visuals that’ll keep you on your toes until the end. Go see it!
