Mar y Sol Cocina Latina

Yellowtail Ceviche

Mar y Sol Cocina Latina opened just weeks ago in the Knox-Henderson district of Dallas. The chic space is beautifully designed with clean lines, a serene beige and brown color scheme, and natural textures all around. The gorgeous pottery plates and cups contrast perfectly with the light and airy setting.

Even the entrance is exciting. You feel a bit like you’re walking into a Cocina Latina theme park! Mar y Sol is the latest concept by the same visionary behind one of my all-time favorite restaurants, Toulouse.

Mar y Sol presents their dishes and with such care, it’s practically dinner theater! Ceviche is served via smoking dry ice dramatically spilling onto the table and one cocktail was casually set on fire. What’s not to love? Here are all of the food details.

Mar y Sol Review

I forgot my mini ring light and Mar y Sol’s lighting was quite dim so please excuse the photography.

Yellowtail Ceviche

I love the amount of raw items on the menu. You know how much your girl loves a cold bar! We ordered the yellowtail ceviche with shaved shallot and crispy leeks and it was every bit as good as it looks, so fresh and flavorful.

King Crab Causas

How gorgeous is this dish!? King Crab Causas includes marinated king crab, chili potato, Kalamata olives, tomatoes, microgreens, and a delicious pink sauce that pulls it all together. It’s nice and cooling, a welcome bite after the complimentary table salsa.

Drinks

The Hibiscus Dragon Cocktail was refreshing but it wasn’t nearly as vibrantly pink as it appeared in photos. I much preferred the Basito de Verano, a frozen pineapple tequila cocktail that instantly transported me to an island state of mind.

The mango margarita, La Diabla, is served in a ring of fire, much to our delight, and was finished with a tajin rim.

Queso Fundido

The queso fundido arrived sizzling hot, creating one giant crunchy cheese crust. Our delightful server showed us how to scrape the cheese and eat it in the housemade blue corn tortillas. Delicious!

Lomo Saltado

Though we were quite full already, we soldiered on. (I do this for y’all!) We split the Lomo Saltado and thank goodness we did. This may have been our favorite dish! Tender beef tips are tossed with the best crispy potatoes and nikkei sauce. It’s heaven in a bowl.

Piña Colada Crème Brûlée

Last but certainly not least, we ordered the Piña Colada Crème Brûlée. I know this is a bold statement, but Mar y Sol officially serves the best crème brûlée in Dallas. The thick and creamy custard has a hint of coconut and passionfruit and comes in a hollowed-out pineapple with an orchid, strawberries, and dragonfruit.

Run, don’t walk, to check out Mar y Sol. They also serve brunch! Shoutout to my friend Kally for suggesting this fabulous outing.
