A Beauty and the Beast party with a French menu inspired by the iconic song Be Our Guest
“Ma chere Mademoiselle, it is with deepest pride
And greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight
And now we invite you to relax, let us pull up a chair as The Rose Table proudly presents your dinner!”
Beauty and the Beast is not only one of my all-time favorite Disney movies but also one of my all-time favorite films! Based on the French tale La Bette a la Belle, the 1991 hit has fantastic music by Alan Menken, a dreamy setting, fantastic characters, and an entire song dedicated to having a nice dinner so of course it made the cut for The Rose Table Disney Dinners. Plus it’s home to my life motto:
I want adventure in the great wide somewhereI want it more than I can tellAnd for once it might be grandTo have someone understandI want so much more than they’ve got planned
Here’s how I hosted my Beauty and the Beast party, recipes and all! Watch the Disney Dinners: Beauty and the Beast episode of The Rose Table:

The Ambiance
Out of all 12 Disney Dinners I’m hosting this year, Beauty and the Beast looks the most like dinner at my house. Why? Because my dining room is French themed! I actually bought my teal china cabinet because it reminded me of the wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast. Doesn’t it look like it’s about to burst into song at any moment? I draped a rose garland around the china cabinet and if you look closely, I styled the cabinet specifically for this party, even putting a Chip cup front and center.
I did not do anything crazy to the lighting in my dining room. I wanted to use my already French-themed art and dramatic lighting would detract from that. I hung a rose garland from the doorway and burned a lavender candle in the sitting room to make the house smell like the French countryside.
“If you’re stressed
It’s fine dining we suggest!”
The Table
This is the first Disney Dinner to feature placemats instead of a tablecloth. I used my favorite yellow placemats as a nod to Belle’s dress. I used taper candles in silver candleholders for old fashioned French lighting. I kept the table very simple because I wanted the roses to shine.
I styled the side table with leather-bound books, a gold candelabra, a clock, and a single long-stemmed rose with a few fallen petals at the base, all subtle nods to characters in Beauty and the Beast.
The Flowers
Roses, roses, and more roses. I cut three dozen red roses quite low and packed them in short, plain vases. I didn’t want anyone to notice the vases; I just wanted a sea of red roses punctuated with a few candles.
The Place Settings
I used yellow scalloped placemats, white napkins, and perfect red rose napkin rings (thanks, Pier 1!) for the table setting. Everyone had a champagne glass and red wine glass. Please notice that mine is Beauty and the Beast themed! I used my Pottery Barn Emma plates and soup bowls.
I served dessert on official Disney plates that say Try the Grey Stuff, It’s Delicious! How could I resist? Another special item at this Disney Dinner was the printed folded menus, something else that’s featured in both the animated and live action film.
The Music
I played soft French jazz at my Beauty and the Beast party to set the tone and fit the theme.
The Fashion
I was quite excited about Disney bounding as Belle! This is one of my absolute favorite Disney Dinners outfits. I wore a yellow cocktail dress inspired by Belle and red high heels for the rose and curled my hair and pulled part of it back in a rose clip.
My friends really brought it fashion-wise! They were all inspired by Belle’s blue dress and Beast’s ballroom outfit. Don’t they look lovely?
“Beef ragout, cheese soufflé
Pie and pudding, on flambé
We’ll prepare and serve with flair
A culinary cabaret”

The Food
Now for the most important part, the food! I recipe tested for months to come up with this menu. There is a viral recipe for The Grey Stuff and that is NOT what I served. I think you’ll love my Rose Table twist to The Grey Stuff!
Beauty and the Beast Menu:
Mini cheese soufflés
Beef ragout with buttered baguette
The Grey Stuff
Mini cheese soufflés
I can’t believe I wasted so many years being afraid of soufflé. If you have ever separated egg whites for a cake before, don’t be afraid. This recipe turns out perfectly every time and is weirdly delicious reheated days later! Get the recipe here.
Beef Ragout
This classic French stew is great for entertaining because you do the bulk of the work in the afternoon and let it hang out in the oven and on the stove for hours until the meat is fall-apart tender. It would be perfect served with mashed potatoes. It’s super rich so a little goes a long way, especially when you slop it up with buttered baguette. Get the recipe here.
The Grey Stuff
Cookies and cream whipped cream is piped on a bed of dark, fudgy Chambord brownies. It’s pure chocolate heaven. Get the recipe here.
“Try the grey stuff, it’s delicious
Don’t believe me, ask the dishesThey can sing, they can dance
After all, miss, this is France
And a dinner here is never second best”
The Drinks
I paired a new version of one of my favorite champagne cocktails featuring Chambord liqueur and Veuve Clicquot with the cheese soufflé. My friends brought a gorgeous French burgundy to pair with the beef ragout. I served decaf coffee with the grey stuff. Get the recipe for La Belle et la Betê here.
I also served a French red wine with the beef ragout and coffee with dessert.
I hope you loved this Beauty and the Beast party as much as I did! It was a culinary adventure in the great wide somewhere. Stay tuned – next month is Disney Dinners: Mulan!
