Beauty and the Beast Tea

Beauty and the Beast Tea Party

Welcome to the first ever Rose Table Tea! In real life, I often host my girlfriends for tea but somehow I’ve never done a tea party episode until now. Avid Rose Table readers will know that my Beauty and the Beast party was the third ever episode of my Disney Dinners series but I’ve been inspired by the timeless tale once again to bring you a Beauty and the Beast Tea Party.

“I’ll be bubbling, I’ll be brewing!” – Mrs. Potts

I hosted my Beauty and the Beast tea party in my garden with a completely different look than my dinner party. (If you’re looking for beef ragout and cheese soufflé, click here.) The main decor items were my epic rose wall (learn how to build your own here) and my tea cart plus some rose garlands and of course, all of my real roses.

The Table & Flowers

This table looks very different from my original Beauty and the Beast dinner party and that was sort of the point! For my Beauty and the Beast Tea party, I was inspired by Beast’s outfit during the famous ballroom scene. I styled the table with a royal blue tablecloth and gold candelabra centerpiece (Lumiere, of course!) with small bouquets of red roses on either side and two 3-tiered stands. Simple and elegant! Unlike my dinner parties, the food of course was served all at once and was therefore the true centerpiece.

The Tea Cart

I rolled out my beautiful bar cart that my dad built for the party and styled it for our tea service. I had a rose dish full of tea options (chamomile, lady early grey, peppermint, and lemon and ginger tea) and a teapot full of piping hot water (for Mrs. Potts of course!).

My friend Annemieke at Enchanted Farmhouse made an elegant Tale as Old as Time sign and sent me a gorgeous glass cookie jar with “Until the Last Petal Falls” etched on it. I filled the cookie jar with a take-home gift for my friends. (More on that later!)

I also had a red rose bouquet and a beautifully illustrated copy of the original French Beauty and the Beast fairytale adorning the bar cart. It turns out, several of my guests speak French and we were treated to a reading of the fairytale by Yisha!

The Place Settings

I kept the place settings simple: gold chargers, gold flatware, and my china plates and teacups on top. The real show-stopper was the red satin napkins that I styled as a rose inside the teacup. How cute is this!? It’s so easy to do! Just set a fork in the center of a large napkin (a thin one like mine works best!) and start loosely twirling the napkin until it’s formed a rose. Then pick it up and set it any glass or teacup and voila! Don’t be frustrated if you need to try it a couple of times or tuck the edges in. It literally takes seconds to do so you have time to make mistakes! Read my article about How to Make Napkin Roses here.

And no I did not iron my napkins. My mom is going to kill me when she sees this! But does it matter with rose? You can’t even tell!

The Fashion

I found this perfect yellow Belle dress on Amazon; can you believe it?! I wore it with a rose necklace and comb roses stuck in a bun. My friends looked absolutely stunning in their tea outfits – very garden party chic!

The Food

Looking for the perfect Beauty and the Beast Tea menu? You found it! And because it’s The Rose Table, you know that it’s a pretty easy, make-ahead menu…with a French twist, of course! As with any traditional tea, I served all of the sandwiches on the bottom tier, the scones on the second, and the desserts on top.

Gaston’s Egg Salad Sandwiches

Gaston's Egg Salad Sandwich

What could be cuter for a Beauty and the Beast Tea? We all know that Gaston ate four dozen eggs when he was a lad. Celebrate one of the greatest Disney villains of all time with delicious egg salad sandwiches complete with an adorable toothpick rose. Watch my Beauty and the Beast Tea episode and you’ll see me positively squeal with delight at the sight. Get the recipe here.

Make ahead note: I hard boiled the eggs days in advance and made the egg salad the day before. All I had to do at tea time was spread it on bread and add the toothpicks!

French Onion Soup Crostini

French Onion Soup Crostini

After all, Miss, this is France! And a tea service here is never second best. Beauty and the Beast of course is a French fairytale and one of my favorite French dishes is French Onion Soup. I translated that into a tea bite with the most delicious French Onion Soup Crostini! While this isn’t make-ahead friendly, it only takes mere minutes to make. Get the recipe here.

Tarragon Chicken Salad Tartlets

Tarragon Chicken Salad Party Appetizer

One bite of my Tarragon Chicken Salad served in delicious phyllo cups and you’ll wonder where it’s been your whole life. Serve it in adorable crisp phyllo cups and your guests will be positively swooning.

Make ahead tip: I grilled the chicken and made the chicken salad the day before the party so all I had to do at tea time was spoon it into the phyllo cups.

Smoked Salmon Sandwiches

Beauty and the Beast Tea Party

Alright, fine, it’s not inherently French but no good tea is without a simple sandwich with lox and cream cheese! If you wanted to be a little fancier, you could make my Lemon Lox but I decided to go classic for this tea.

Pâte on Toast

Beauty and the Beast Tea Party

Tres French indeed! There is much debate over whether “the grey stuff” in the movie is sweet or savory. In the theme parks, it’s dessert but many think it’s supposed to be pâte in the film. To cover my bases, I did both! Buy the best pâte you can find and spread it on crackers. I found these adorable little toasts imported from France. So perfect! It topped mine with a parsley leaves.

Lemon Lavender Buttermilk Scones

Lemon Lavender Buttermilk Scones

What’s more French than lavender? This isn’t the first time I served these delightful scones at a Disney Dinner; they made their first appearance at my Mary Poppins Returns party. I served these perfect scones (which by the way, stay fresh for days) with butter, clotted cream, and jam. Get the recipe here.

Make ahead tip: Three days later, these scones still taste perfect so you could absolutely make them the day before your party!

Assorted Macarons

Beauty and the Beast Tea Party

If there’s one thing I learned from Ina Garten, it’s that you don’t have to make every single thing yourself. I fell in love with Bloom Baking Co’s perfect macarons at the farmers market this summer and just had to get an assortment for my guests to enjoy at the tea. After all, macarons are so very French and perfect for a tea party! You can tell she uses the highest quality ingredients. These macarons melt in your mouth with their buttery goodness. I wish I could get a box every weekend! Order some here.

Buzz Berries

Beauty and the Beast Tea Party

For a simple light dessert, I dipped strawberries in champagne and then in powdered sugar, a trick my mom used to do for her parties. You do want to do this right before serving but my goodness, how long does it take to dip? Minutes!

The Grey Stuff Cookies

The Grey Stuff Cookies

Last but certainly not least, The Grey Stuff was the star of the dessert course! My original version of The Grey Stuff seen at Disney Dinners: Beauty and the Beast was incredibly rich, with a fudge brownie base. For my tea, I lightened things up and served The Grey Stuff on small sugar cookie rounds for an adorably Disney tea bite. Get the recipe here.

The Grey Stuff CookiesThe Grey Stuff Cookies

Make ahead tip: I baked the cookies several days in advance and made The Grey Stuff the day before the party and yes, I even piped it on the day before. It won’t fall, I promise. The powdered sugar acts as a stabilizer for the whipped cream. Days later, they still look perfect!

Teapot Sugar Cookies

Teapot Sugar Cookies

For a little something extra (and since I needed to bake sugar cookie rounds for The Grey Stuff), I baked little teapot and teacup sugar cookies and frosted them, individually wrapping each cookie with either a red or blue ribbon to include on the teacart. My guests got to take cookies home as a little take home gift. Get the recipe here.
