This week I baked one of my favorite fall treats, my pumpkin oreo pie with cinnamon whipped cream, and headed out to Black Star Sport Horses for a little pumpkin picnic with my horse, Wendy.

I laid an earth tone colored quilt down in front of the pasture and decorated with a few medium sized pumpkins, a wooden basket of small pumpkins, a galvanized metal bucket, a bouquet of red roses leftover from the weekend, and settled in with some wine and pie.
Wendy came over to join me because she is an Olympic level picnicker. I bought her when she was just a yearling and I didn’t know what to do with that young of a horse so almost every Saturday for years, I’d stop at the farmers market and pick of breakfast goodies and head to the farm to let her play in the pasture while I ate breakfast. Except because she’s Wendy, she’d stay on the picnic blanket with me and try to steal all of my berries while my other horse Prince ran circles around us. She is still an active picnicker to this day!
I brought my pie out in my favorite Longaberger Co basket lined with thin ice packs. I then used the basket as a sort of cake plate to keep the pie off the ground.
Not every picnic has to be a big elaborate production. I am a big believer in dining al fresco but sometimes you don’t want to pack up a million dishes. I had a super stressful workweek this week and just wanted to enjoy a slice of pie and the sunset with my horse. All of a sudden a Tuesday isn’t just a mundane Tuesday: it’s a pumpkin picnic kind of Tuesday.
