A German menu served in an enchanted forest
Looking for Snow White party ideas and recipes? You’ve come to the right place! A Snow White-themed dinner party could go so many different ways. Many of my friends lobbied for this Disney Dinner to be a spring party, due to the flowers and woodland creatures. I originally wanted to have it in October because of the poison apple angle but ultimately I decided that it should be the finale for a slew of reasons: (1) Snow White was the first full length feature animated film by Disney, (2) Snow White, along with many of the original Disney movies is based on a Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale making it of German origin, and (3) it takes place in an enchanted forest so I could use Christmas trees in December.

Many people don’t realize how many Disney movies are based on Grimm’s fairy tales: Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty (an adaptation of the original), Tangled, Princess and the Frog. Most people also don’t realize how many of their Christmas traditions are German: Christmas trees, hanging Christmas lights, hanging stockings, Santa Claus, gingerbread cookies, advent calendars, mulled wine…the list goes on. So basically, if you love Disney and/or Christmas, you have Germany to thank.
If you haven’t seen Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, the premise is that the Evil Queen is jealous of Snow White’s beauty and orders a huntsman to kill her, but he can’t bring himself to do it and lets her go. She flirts with a Prince, sings with a whole forest full of animals, takes up residence with seven dwarves, and falls under a sleeping curse from a poison apple when the Evil Queen discovers that she’s still alive. True love’s kiss saves the day and the Evil Queen gets hers in the end.
“With a smile and a song
Life is just a bright sunny day
Your cares fade away
And your heart is young” – Snow White
My long-time readers know that I am fluent in German and have a degree in German but they probably don’t know that I took numerous fairy tale courses in college. My dad once said that I was wasting tuition dollars. Who knew that those classes would be the most applicable to my professional life? Dreams do come true, lovelies! I have read all of the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales in their original German. I joke that I have a degree in fairy tales, which really explains a lot. So you can imagine how excited I was to host Disney Dinners: Snow White!
The Ambiance
I went hard with the enchanted forest. I set two Christmas trees (a German Nordmann Fir and a Frasier Fir) on either side of my dining room doorway and used cuttings from those trees all over the dining room: on top of my china cabinet, tucked inside my china cabinet, and all around the art. I often describe my home style as “fairy tale chic” and pulled various fairy tale decor from other parts of my house: a crown picture, my Happily Ever After sign, a Fairytales Do Come True sign, and my personal favorite, You are the Fairest of Them All. That latter normally hangs in my guest bathroom as a little affirmation for all who come over. Since Snow White is one of the classic fairy tales, I wrote “Once Upon a Time” on my chalkboard and burned a Christmas tree candle for those enchanted forest vibes.

The Table
I know I say this every month, but this might be my favorite Disney Dinners table! I wanted to push the forest theme so I wanted my beautiful wood table to show. I couldn’t find the runner that I wanted so I carefully folded my forest green tablecloth into a runner. I decorated the center of the table with a wooden bowl full of red apples, adorable little mushrooms, candles, and exactly seven frasier fir branches: one for each of the seven dwarves.
I styled my side table with more branches, a lantern, a rosemary tree, and a poison apple spell. I mean, come on.
The Flowers
I was really torn on what flowers I wanted. Originally I wanted snow white flowers but alas, my store didn’t have a single white rose! I went with red roses, white carnations, and pale green hydrangeas arranged in my birch vases (seen also at Disney Dinners: Frozen).
“Lips red as the rose, hair black as ebony, skin white as snow.”
The Place Settings
I am so in love with these place settings. I was determined to find wood chargers for my enchanted forest table but grimaced at the sticker price. Right after Hercules, I accidentally clicked on the Marketplace section of Facebook and saw, “Cedar slices for sale!” I purchased cedar slices for $3 a slice that had been cut down that day from trees in my own town.
My dad sanded them, treated them with polyurethane, and stuck little felt tabs on the bottom so they wouldn’t scratch my table. Aren’t they the most beautiful chargers you’ve ever seen? And so cheap! If you want cedar chargers, I highly recommend googling to see if you have any tree farms near you. Not only were they way less expensive than store-bought chargers, but also so much more special. Here we were eating in the enchanted forest and our chargers were literally chopped down from the forest.
On top of the cedar slices sat my Emma plates from Pottery Barn, and forest green napkins tied with Happily Ever After ribbon and a rosemary sprig.
“Make a wish into the well
That’s all you have to do
And if you hear it echoing
Your wish will soon come true” – Snow White
The Music
I of course had to play my favorite Disney jazz CD with enchanting classics such as Someday My Prince Will Come and Bibbidi Bobbiddi Boo.
“I’m wishing.” – Snow White
The Fashion
This was one of my favorite Disney Dinners looks, right up there with Hercules and Beauty and the Beast. For my Snow White Disney bounding, I wore an old fashioned yellow dress with a royal blue cardigan and heels and a red bow in my hair. Most notably, I had a bitten apple necklace! My guests looked so lovely and one even dressed like the Evil Queen!
The Drink
I served The Fairest Cocktail of Them All, a name I came up with at the very start of Disney Dinners! This easy dessert cocktail only has three ingredients: half & half, Frangelico (hazelnut liqueur), and vanilla vodka. Add a sugar rim for that Rose Table touch.
I also served Gewürtztraminer with the main course and Glühwein, a warm mulled wine, with dessert.

The Food
I adore German food and am so proud of this menu.

Snow White Menu
Scallop Salad
Sausage Flight
Käsespätzle
Black Forest Cake
Scallop Salad (Jakobmuschelnsalat)
This might not sound German to Americans but trust me, this is German. Shout out to our dear family friend Geli Hanfland in Germany for this brilliant starter suggestion. This salad has baby spinach tossed with tomatoes, sesame seeds, and a white wine vinaigrette topped with a seared scallop. It’s such an elegant way to start a meal! Get the recipe here.
Sausage Flight
Sausage reigns supreme in Germany but I wanted a more glamorous way to serve it so I made a little sausage flight with four different sausage all sliced up on a bed of sauerkraut and chopped apples so that my guests could try a little of everything. Get the “recipe” here.
Käsespätzle
This is my favorite German dish and honestly, one of the best dishes I’ve ever made. Homemade egg noodles are layered with caramelize onions and two kinds of cheese for the most indescribably perfect cheesy casserole you’ll ever try. I feel like a fool for never attempting to make homemade spätzle before testing for Disney Dinners! It’s so fast and easy. Don’t be intimidated. It’s so much easier than pasta! Get the recipe here.

Black Forest Cake
Since we were in the enchanted forest, I of course had to serve black forest cake. I served mine with a chocolate forest on top rather than the classic rosette and cherry topping to make it a little more Disney Dinners whimsical. Layers of dark chocolate cake are brushed with cherry liqueur, topped with almond whipped cream, and kirsch-soaked cherries in this show-stopping dessert. Curiously, all of my guests commented how light of a dessert it was. We managed to polish off every bite of our slices, which were served with a cherry Hidden Mickey. Get the recipe here.
The Grande Finale
I wanted to end 12 Months of Disney Dinners the same way you would end a day at Disneyland: with fireworks. I used the Atmos FX Digital Decorating Kit to project fireworks on my dining room ceiling right above the table for the most magical dessert experience. Learn how to do it here and impress your guests for the rest of time. Learn how to project fireworks on your ceiling here.
This was such a fun evening with my girlfriends and an incredible menu that I’ll definitely recreate time and time again. Stay tuned because next month I’m hosting a special Disney Dinners encore event: a Cinderella Ball.
P.S. I would like to give a special thank you to my mom – Mama Rose Table! – for spending so much of her year helping me with my insane project 12 Months of Disney Dinners. I would also like to thank Sarah for her die hard support (and for flying to Texas for Hercules!) and Jason and Rebecca for all of the nights spent recipe testing and brainstorming with me. Last but not least, I would like to thank every single one of my readers for watching, loving, and sharing my articles and videos. I couldn’t do this without you! If you love something, please share it with friends.

I’m going to miss reading about the Disney dinners, it feels like I’ve been to them!
That is so sweet! Don’t worry, I will be hosting more next year, just not one every single month. 🙂 I promise this is not the end.
Good, I was hoping you weren’t going to finish 🙂
