Have you ever had Texas bourbon? Garrison Brothers‘ award-winning bourbon has beaten Kentucky-made bourbon at several national competitions. Bourbon-lovers cannot get enough of this highly rated stuff! I visited Garrison Brothers Distillery in Hye, Texas while on a press trip to Stonewall Motor Lodge in the Fredericksburg area a few weeks ago. It’s just down the road and is a true Texas experience.
Garrison Brothers Distillery sits on 70 acres in the Texas hill country. Tours of the massive property are available, but my group just did a tasting in the main public section. We learned the proper way to taste bourbon (swirl, smell, roll it around in your mouth like a hard candy) and tasted four different Garrison bourbons.

Let me tell you: a bourbon tasting is not for the faint of heart. This is some powerful stuff to try straight! Garrison Brothers also offer bourbon cocktails at their outdoor bar if you need something a little less strong. There are barrel chairs and fire pits and outdoor games. It’s the kind of place you could chill out for a good long while and have a proper chat with someone under the expansive Texas sky.

Don’t forget the gift shop! Garrison has all sorts of fun bourbon products including bourbon pecans, jams and spreads, maple syrups, and fun merchandise. It’s a great place to pick up Texas goodies for Christmas!

Tours are Wednesday-Sunday at 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, and 4 pm excluding holidays. Tours are $10 on weekdays, $20 on weekends, and “free if you show up on a horse.” The Garrison Brothers website has some awesome sounding recipes so be sure to check them out!
