Thinking about using blood bags for your vampire party? You’ve come to the right place!
I bought these food-grade blood bags on Amazon last winter for a vampire-themed dinner with my friend Irene and featured them again this Halloween in my Vampire Dinner episode of The Rose Table. Blood bags add such a fun party element to any vampire-themed party. I absolutely love using them.
My (affiliate link!) party blood bags came with a safety clip so you don’t have to worry about spilling if you set down the bag plus fun labels and a syringe to fill the bags with. I first filled the bags with water using the provided syringe to swish out the insides before filling them with my drink. Then I carefully applied the labels before filling them.
These can be filled with *almost* any red liquid but it’s advised that you not fill them with any hot liquid. You also shouldn’t freeze the bags. Furthermore, you should avoid carbonated beverages because the process of filling the bags with the syringe will make the carbonation go flat. That means no soda or champagne!
I was going to make a cocktail for the occasion but honestly, I just adore red wine with bolognese so that’s what I used! I think such a fun party idea would be to have each type of red wine be a different blood type. For instance, merlot is type A, Sangiovese is type AB, and Rioja is type O. If you do want a cocktail, The Smolder or Mar-Vell would work great. Any flavor of red juice for kids will work just fine.
How to Use Blood Bags for Drinks:
- Fill a cup or bowl with water. Use the syringe to fill each bag with water, swish it around to clean it, then dump the water out of the bags. Pat the bags dry.
- Remove the backing from the labels and apply the labels to the bags, then use the A, AB, O, etc stickers in the designated place.
- Insert the safety clip onto the straw. The straw should go through the holes on the safety clip.
- Fill a glass with whatever red drink you want. Push the syringe down, insert the syringe into the liquid, and slowly pull the syringe handle back up to fill the syringe with liquid.
- Insert the tip of the syringe into the blood bag straw and slowly push the syringe handle down to fill the bag. Each bag takes about 2.5 syringes. Snap the clip closed to stop liquid from coming out of the straws. Store in the fridge until ready to use.
