Looking for a cozy salad recipe for fall? Make this delicious Apple & Pear Salad with dried cranberries, goat cheese, and delicious apple cider vinaigrette!
I served this easy salad at my Sleepy Hollow dinner party and it was a hit! I wanted a mix of apples and pears since both are mention in the original story and now I’m wondering why I’ve never made a salad with this combination before!

Walnuts aren’t my personal favorite nut (you could easily substitute pecans or even pumpkin seeds here) but I was determined to use them because Sleepy Hollow is described by Washington Irving to be surrounded by walnut trees. Plus walnuts go really well with goat cheese and cranberries!
I never measure when it comes to salad but for reference, I used about 6 cups of greens, 1 apple, 1 pear, a handful of dried cranberries, about 2-3 ounces of goat cheese, and another handful of walnuts for my party.
Apple & Pear Salad
Mixed salad greens
Chopped apple
Chopped pear
Dried cranberries
Goat cheese
Toasted chopped walnuts
Apple cider vinaigrette, recipe follows
- Arrange salad greens on a platter or in a bowl. Add chopped apple, chopped pear, dried cranberries, goat cheese, and toasted walnuts. Serve with apple cider vinaigrette.
Apple Cider Vinaigrette
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp honey
1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
Salt, pepper to taste
- Pour olive oil in a jar. Slowly stream apple cider vinegar into olive oil, whisking constantly to emulsify the dressing. Whisk in honey, Dijon, and salt and pepper to taste.
