Baked Doughnuts Two Ways

Baked Doughnuts Two Ways

Between baked cinnamon sugar doughnuts and baked maple glazed doughnuts: why choose? Make both! This quick and easy recipe make 12 doughnuts and includes instructions to finish them half and half.

You will need doughnut pans for this recipe but trust me, once you start baking doughnuts, you will fall in love. Plus they’re much healthier than fried doughnuts!

Thank you to my grocery partner Kroger for supporting The Rose Table and this recipe! It’s partnerships like this that keep The Rose Table going.

Baked doughnuts are always best served day-of but they will keep for a couple of days in a container at room temperature. I baked these beauties the day before my Sleepy Hollow party, finished the cinnamon sugar doughnuts, but didn’t make the maple glaze until party day.

The glaze is pretty much out of this world: rich, buttery, maple-y. Absolutely delightful! I hope you love this duel recipe as much as I do.

Baked Doughnuts Two Ways

Makes 12
1 1/2 cups + 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1/2 granulated sugar
1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 large egg
1 cup low-fat buttermilk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

For the cinnamon sugar:
4 Tbsp butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

For the maple glaze:
1 Tbsp butter
1.5 oz maple syrup
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/8 tsp vanilla extract

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease two doughnut pans.
  2. Whisk together dry ingredients.
  3. Add egg, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla, and stir until combined.
  4. Spoon batter evenly into prepared doughnut pans.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until doughnuts spring back when lightly touched.
  6. Cool in the pan for five minutes.
  7. Use a small spatula to gently pop doughnut out of pan. Cool completely.
  8. To make the cinnamon-sugar doughnuts: whisk together granulated sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Melt 4 Tbsp butter in another small bowl. Dunk half the doughnuts in the melted butter, then in the cinnamon sugar to thoroughly coat.
  9. To make the maple glazed doughnuts: melt butter in a small bowl, then whisk in sifted powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Dunk half the doughnuts in the maple glaze.
