I’m finally back at the lake house after six long months and I opened a special bottle to toast the occasion. I’ve been so excited to try Kuhlman Cellars’ 2021 Estate White. I’ve never met an Estate White of theirs that I didn’t like!
Note: I love Kuhlman Cellars so much that they made me their publicist several years ago. My PR company is not related to The Rose Table but I have to disclose it. 🙂
The fifth vintage of the Estate White is comprised of 70% Marsanne and 30% Roussanne, a winning combination. Notes of honeydew melon with a hint of jasmine immediately hit the nose. I felt my blood pressure plummeting as I inhaled a deep breath of its sweet scent while looking out at the lake. It was a gorgeous day, 60 degrees and sunny. The lake was sparkling. It was the perfect early spring day for such a wine!
The 2021 Estate White is light and cheerful with bright acidity, bringing a smile to your lips as soon as you taste it. It tastes a bit like Meyer lemon, jasmine, and honeydew. It’s one of those wines that gets more complex and delicious the longer you savor it. I love a complex flavor profile, but it’s the perfect balance of acidity that really had me swooning.
I served this wine with a spatchcock chicken marinated in lemon zest, lemon juice, olive oil, and fresh rosemary from my garden (recipe coming shortly!), cheddar mashed potatoes, and parmesan grilled asparagus. It was a perfect evening to grill at the lake and dine al fresco!
