Looking for easy summer picnic ideas? Keep reading! My friend Sydney and I had the loveliest picnic dinner before Twelfth Night at Shakespeare Dallas. Shakespeare in the Park is one of my favorite summer traditions! Theater, wine, and dinner al fresco. What could be more Rose Table?

The Decor
I took my favorite rose picnic blanket, my white pearl melamime plates, pink coral napkins with a pearl trim, white carnations, a fan, and two of the outdoor wine glasses from my fairytale collection.

I’ve been saving my Viognier from Justin Wines that I bought in Paso Robles for a special occasion and I thought an evening at Shakespeare Dallas fit the bill!

Kuhlman Cellars also drove up from the hill country for opening night so I grabbed a bottle of Alluvé and Calcaria to take home, plus some of their famous herbed almonds to snack on.

The Food
I made a couple of really easy recipes that transported well and made use of fresh summer produce like cantaloupe, strawberries, tomatoes, and fresh basil from my garden.

Pearl Couscous Salad

Stuffed Dates

I originally came up with this quick and easy appetizer for my Indiana Jones party, since they eat dates multiple times in Raiders, but now I make them all the time because they’re absolutely delicious. Get the recipe here.
Pearl Couscous Salad

I decided to shake things up and made a simple Pearl Couscous Salad with cherry tomatoes, pearled mozzarella, tons of fresh basil from my garden, and a garlic champagne vinaigrette. It’s so good, we ate seconds! Get the recipe here.
Strawberry Cheesecake Jars

This is the perfect use for juicy, ripe summer berries! I absolutely adore cheesecake jars for a summer picnic because the jars stay chilled for hours. We didn’t eat dessert until the final act, hours into our picnic, and the jars were still ice cold. Get the recipe here.
The Show
Twelfth Night blew my high expectations out of the water. The Shakespeare Dallas cast was absolutely phenomenal. The character-driven comedy is one of mistaken identity during which hilarity ensues.

Mikaela Baker was a standout as Olivia, conveying so much in every scene. Francine Gonzalez was hilarious in her high-energy role of Viola, garnering tons of laughs from the audience. Caleb Mosley was perfectly cast as Orsino and Ryan Michael Friedman damn near stole the show as Feste.

If you love a fast-paced comedy, you will love Shakespeare Dallas’ production of Twelfth Night. Go see it this summer!
Happy picnicking,
