I used half spicy globe basil and half regular basil in this recipe and it’s just perfect. Like all basil, harvest spicy globe basil before it flowers or it’ll be bitter. This pesto freezes wonderfully so you can enjoy a taste of summer all winter long! It’s delicious tossed with pasta for a quick dinner and goes nicely with chicken, salmon, fried eggplant, and it can really jazz up a sandwich.
Spicy Globe Basil Pesto
1 cup packed fresh basil leaves
1 cup packed fresh spicy globe basil leaves
1/4 cup pine nuts
1 garlic clove
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup pecorino cheese
- Process basil, pine nuts, and cloves in a food processor. Stream in olive oil. Season to your liking, then stir in cheese and serve immediately
