The Buccaneer Resort on Saint Croix is hands-down one of my favorite resorts in the Caribbean. With three beaches, a fabulous pool, three restaurants, a golf course, and tons of family-friendly activities, what’s not to love? I’ve been dreaming about returning for years and finally made it back to my beloved Buccaneer Resort!

Resort Amenities

You truly don’t have to leave the resort if you don’t want to – though there is tons to see and do on beautiful Saint Croix! There are lots of lawn games around the resort, complimentary paddle boards and kayaks, complimentary snorkel gear, and so much more. There’s even a complimentary kids camp every day!

There’s an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, spa services (I had a fantastic massage!), and live entertainment such as the fire dancing show at Grotto Beach, beachfront yoga, a welcome reception, a boutique, family treasure hunts, nature walks, and so much more.

Mermaid Beach

Mermaid Beach is one of top amenities at The Buccaneer Resort. This is one of my favorite beaches in the world. There’s lots of shade thanks to gorgeous palm trees and umbrellas, there’s chaise lounge service from Mermaid Restaurant serving up delicious food and epic cocktails, and of course the white sand beach!

There’s quite a large sand bank, making the ocean access extremely friendly. I spent three hours sitting in the water on what felt like a couch made of sand.

Grotto Beach & The Pool

Grotto Beach is about a five-minute walk from Mermaid Beach and is considerably smaller and less crowded with corn hole and easy access to snorkeling. It’s also home to Beauregard’s on the Beach and the weekly fire dancing show.

The resort’s infinity pool overlooks Grotto Beach. The pool area is so underrated. There are lots of chaise lounges, chaise lounge beds, beach umbrellas, and even stone chaise lounges submerged in water if you want to read a book and stay cool! We spent tons of time at the pool, since you can still enjoy ocean views and beach vibes. You really get the best of both worlds!

On-site Dining

There are three restaurants at The Buccaneer Resort: Mermaid Restaurant on Mermaid Beach, Beauregard’s on the Beach at Grotto Beach, and The Terrace overlooking the resort.

Mermaid Restaurant

This beautifully appointed open-air restaurant is open for lunch daily and dinner on select nights. The family-friendly menu includes burgers and sandwiches, but also fantastic seafood options such as conch fritters and mahi tacos.

The restaurant also serves the beach, meaning you can get the full menu brought right to your lounge chair. The Mermaid also serves up some of the best cocktails I’ve had in the Caribbean. Yo ho! Read more about Mermaid Restaurant here.

Beauregard’s on the Beach

Beauregard’s is right by the resort pool at Grotto Beach (a smaller beach best for snorkeling) and offers sushi, mahogany tables, and stunning ocean views.

Surrounded by tiki torches and dotted with string lights, Beauregard’s becomes even more magical at night. Definitely make sure the fire dancing show is on your trip itinerary! Read more about Beauregard’s on the Beach here.

The Terrace

The complimentary breakfast buffet is served daily in The Terrace, which is located in the historic house next to the 18th century sugar mill. I especially loved the fruit parfait bar and the salmon quiche – yum!

Dinner is served Wednesday through Sunday and has gorgeous views of the Caribbean Sea at the open-air restaurant and lounge. The Terrace offers Caribbean-inspired dishes, seafood, and live jazz on select nights. It’s a beautiful place to watch the sunset! Read more about The Terrace here.

Accommodations

The accommodations at The Buccaneer are utterly fantastic. We originally had a room booked in one of the luxury ocean bungalows, which is just about my favorite hotel room ever. The balcony overlooking Mermaid Beach is reason enough to book a flight!

We ended up getting upgraded to The Ficus Suite, which has ruined me for travel indefinitely. The 1,400 square foot, 2 bedroom, 3 bath apartment sleeps 6 and overlooks the resort pool. Read all about The Ficus Suite here.

Final Thoughts

If you are looking for a phenomenal resort for a family vacation, girls trip, or honeymoon, look no further than The Buccaneer Resort. You don’t even need a passport to visit Saint Croix! The island is easy to get around, the locals are incredibly friendly, and the resort is just five minutes away from Christiansted. Boat companies will even pick you up right on Mermaid Beach to whisk you off to beautiful Buck Island. It’s easy to see why I absolutely adore The Buccaneer!
